What is Borosilicate Glass?

Borosilicate glass contains ‘boron trioxide’ alongside the traditional mixture of glass ingredients. This makes borosilicate glass more durable and resistant than other forms of glass.

Advantages of Borosilicate Glass

Temperature- and thermal shock resistant

Borosilicate glass can endure quick temperature changes, and therefore exhibits high resistance to thermal shock. (Thermal shock is cracking because of rapid temperature change). The glass withstands freezing, microwave heating, and boiling temperatures. Borosilicate glass can go straight from a freezer to an oven without cracking. This means that you can pour boiling water into your baby bottle if you want to sanitize it, without worrying about shattering or cracking the glass, as regular glass would.

Borosilicate can withstand temperatures of up to around 170°C. This characteristic makes borosilicate glass a popular glass for baby bottles (like ours), glass cookware, lab equipment, and premium wine glasses.

Durable

Borosilicate glass is more durable and harder than regular glass, and therefore harder to break. It holds up against harder drops and impacts than regular glass. Note: that borosilicate glass is still glass and can of course break if subjected to sufficiently intense force.

Further, borosilicate glass will not change shape over time, discolor or fade.

Shatter resistant

If borosilicate glass does break it tends to crack into bigger chunks rather than shatter into small pieces. This means that it is safer and easier to clean up, and you avoid the dangerous tiny pieces of shattered razor-sharp glass all over your house.

Chemical and acid degradation resistant

Borosilicate glass resists chemicals and acid degradation. It is therefore safe to drink from, and you don’t need to worry about stuff seeping into your water (or in the case of our baby bottle – the milk). You do not have to worry about the bottle heating up and releasing harmful toxins into the liquid.

Safe and food-grade

Borosilicate glass is completely non-toxic, and as a parent, you never have to worry about chemicals leaching into their baby’s food and drinks.

Washing Instructions

Your baby bottle must be cleaned and sanitized before your baby uses it. Part of good baby bottle hygiene is carefully cleaning the bottle before each use. The younger the baby, the more important it is to protect it from bacteria and to maintain good hygiene.

Before first use

Before first use, disassemble and clean the product by placing all components in boiling water for 5 min. to ensure hygiene.

Subsequently cleaning

The latex nipple must be cleaned and sterilized before each use by scalding.

Pour it with boiling water and let it soak in the water for approx. 5 min.
Pick it up and let it dry on a clean towel.

DO NOT use microwave sterilizing or cleaning products or even dishwasher as it will break down the natural rubber latex. Renew the nipple after using it for 4-6 weeks for safety and hygiene reasons. Please do not leave the nipple in direct sun.

Further, always inspect the nipple before each use by pulling the nipple in all directions inspecting it carefully before use, and replacing the nipple at the first sign of damage or weakness.

The milk lock, screw cap, ring, and glass bottle can all be cleaned and sterilized by:

Washing with hot water and soap or washing in the dishwasher.
Pour them with boiling water, to make sure all soap residue is gone.
Let all the parts dry completely before re-assembly.

Microwave sterilization

Do not heat any plastic parts or the nipple in a microwave oven. The glass bottle can withstand microwave heating, but we recommend that you washed it in the above-mentioned ways to ensure it is absolutely clean.

Guide

The round nipple promotes a similar tongue placement and sucking technique when breastfeeding, since the round shape allows the sides of the tongue to elevate and cup around the nipple, just like it does during breastfeeding. This also prevents “nipple”-confusion if you are both breastfeeding and supplementing with a bottle.

The nipple is equipped with an anti-colic valve, that lets out air which reduces air swallowed while feeding.

Direction For Use

All babies are unique in their way. They have different needs, different preferences, and different sucking techniques when being fed. To accommodate this, our range of bottle nipples has different flow rates to meet your baby’s unique needs. The flow rate refers to the size of the hole(s) in the nipple, affecting how quickly milk flows into your baby’s mouth.

Our baby bottle nipples are available with both slow and medium flow - suitable for both milk and water.

Flow rate guide:

Since all babies are unique, it might be necessary to try out different flow rates to find the flow that suits your baby’s feeding habits.

However, for newborn babies, a slow flow rate is recommended for slowing down bottle-feeding to better mimic breastfeeding, to better control milk intake, and secure babies do not overeat. Normally, will the flow rate change over time as the baby grows, and the older the baby gets he or she will prefer a faster flow rate.

However, every child is different, and many factors determine which flow rate suits your child! That is also why we have not age-specified our nipples and their flow rate.

Breastfed vs. formula fed baby

When giving a breastfeeding baby a bottle, registered nurse Kirsten Lise Andersen recommends, that you always use a bottle nipple with a slow flow. This is because breastfed babies are used to working for the milk during breastfeeding since it is harder for the baby to suck out milk from a breast than a bottle. The flow rate must reflect the flow from the breast. If it is too easy for the baby, he or she might start to get lazy or even refuse the breast.

It should take approx. 15-20 minutes to finish a bottle. If it is much faster you should consider a slower flow, and if it is much slower you should consider a faster flow.

If your baby is not breastfed, you don’t have to mimic the breast as much. To find the right flow rate you can follow the following signs:

Signs that the flow rate is too slow:

The baby becomes impatient or aggravated when eating.
It takes longer than 15-20 minutes to finish a bottle or the baby falls asleep during eating.

Signs that the flow rate is too fast:

The baby is gulping.
The baby is coughing.
The baby is choking.
The baby is swallowing too much air.
